About this beach
Warnings and hazards
If you are a non-diver, they can turn you away on busy days.
You need to prove your age, so bring your ID. If you're under 18, you must be accompanied by a parent or your diving instructor.
The Blue Lagoon is a full-service instructor developmental centre, offering lessons for scuba divers of various levels, from the beginner to the advanced. This scuba training facility boasts a spectacularly beautiful swimming hole and is open to non-divers as well, so you may come just to sunbathe, picnic, and swim in the turquoise lake waters. The staff is friendly and helpful, but you should check the hours of operation before your visit and get ready to be turned away on busy days if you don't come early.
Location And Access
The Blue Lagoon is located at 649 Pinedale Road, Huntsville. It's a dive centre, so they limit the hours when non-divers can visit (10 a. m. to 6 p. m. from Monday to Friday, 12 p. m. to 6 p. m. on weekends, and no entrance after 4 p. m.). If you're not going to dive, they can also turn you away in case there are too many visitors already. Since entrance for non-divers is based on space availability, it's better to come as early as you can in high season.
If you're under 18, you must be accompanied by a parent or scuba instructor to enter. In order to prove your age, you need to show a valid ID. The entry fee is $20 for divers and $22 for non-divers. Children under the age of 10 can enter for $5. You can pay in cash or by a credit/debit card.
Scuba Diving
The centre doesn't only give lessons but also provides facilities for other scuba instructors to teach their students. Apart from that, all certified divers can practice their diving skills here. The Blue Lagoon offers some of the best dive sites around Houston.
The water is clean and provides good visibility on most days. There are various sunken objects, which divers can explore. Every group gets their own personal dive site with a parking space and a table near the lake. You can bring a grill and a cooler for a picnic. There is also a retail shop selling scuba gear of top brands on site.
Amenities
There are porta-potties available, but no rinse showers or changing areas. Many visitors change in porta-potties. There are nice covered picnic tables, which you can use for a picnic if you bring your own food.
Swimming Conditions
This swimming hole is definitely a hidden treasure. The lake water is peaceful, clear, refreshingly cool, and spectacularly beautiful. It has a stunning light blue or turquoise colour. Swimming in the lake is enjoyable but not perfectly safe for children, since there are large rocks and drop off points at the bottom. Nevertheless, there are many visitors with children. Exercise due caution and you and your little ones will have a truly wonderful swimming experience!
